Something happens when I’m alone with Rowan that I never thought possible. I feel like a kid again. Time seems to stop completely, then it starts moving backward. I’m no longer in my twenties. I’m back in my teen years, but this time, it’s better because I don’t have tests to study for or a curfew to abide by. Being with Rowan is like rewinding the clock. When we’re together, it’s nothing but fun and laughter.

Somehow, the fishing poles get tossed aside, and we both strip down to our underwear and wade out into the water with the squishy mud between our toes. I splash him and he splashes me. He jumps at me, trying to catch me, but I fall back out of his grasp. I swim away, but he’s bigger and stronger, and he latches on to my ankle, dragging me back against him. My legs wrap around his hips, and my arms circle his neck. His nose is touching mine as he looks deeply into my eyes. I can see the bright sunset in his pupils.

“You’re beautiful, you know that?” he says, moving in for a soft kiss. His hands are splayed across my back as he holds me to him. He breaks the kiss and rests his forehead against mine. “Come home with me.”

I smile, about to tell him no. We can’t be so careless.

“I want you in my bed tonight, in my arms… all night long.” His voice is barely above a whisper, and I can see the intensity in his eyes.

I can’t tell him no.
